About me

An Irishman’s Collection: Stories from the Soul of the Kingdom

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by Irish myths & legends like Tír na nÓg, set on the Killarney lakes and featured in the 1997 film Titanic and Gaelic Warrior Chiefs such as Red Hugh O Donnell (stories I now read to my nephews) to the revolutionaries of 1916. While my passion for history was ignited in a Dublin classroom and tempered in the halls of Kilmainham Gaol,  (thanks Mr. P O‘Neil & Uncle Tony) it found its true home here, among Killarneys lakes, national park and mountain trails.

I don’t just guide here; I belong here. As a 5th-generation Killarney local on my father’s side, my family has lived in Killarney and alongside these stories for well over a century. This website, in part, is my personal collection of the heritage that defines us.

Today, I curate these experiences for the modern traveller. Whether you are standing by Lough Leane, in the shadow of Ross Castle (the last Gaelic stronghold to fall to Cromwell 1652 by a local ancient prophecy!) – or wandering the ancient oak woods of the Killarney National Park, this blog is your local companion.

From the “Raths” and “Duns” of our townlands to the ruins of Muckross Abbey and the Innisfallen Island Monastery, where Ireland most legendary High King – Brian Boru was educated and monks penned the famous Annals of Innisfallen, I invite you to see Killarney not just as a destination, but as a living legacy.

To complement this lifelong local knowledge, I am a National Tour Guide and a proud member of the Approved Tour Guides of Ireland (ATGI). When you walk the National Park or Ross Castle with me, you are getting more than a tour—you are experiencing a unique, multi-generational story of life in the Kingdom.

Planning a trip to Killarney? Let’s walk and talk. I offer intimate 1-3 hour tailored guided tours designed for small groups of fewer than six, ensuring a personal connection to the history and places we uncover together. My time living in Italy and Spain has given me a great appreciation for international culture – and a their languages, too!
